Tinkering Camp at Montalvo Arts Center, June 6 – 10, 2016. Age 6 and up.
DAY ONE
Write your initials using caps
Ice breaker exercise to begin the camp! I had prepared welcome signs for the camps and the campers wrote their initials on light cardboard with recycled plastic caps. They learned how to use a glue gun, gluing either the bottom of the cap or the edge.
caps from RAFT San Jose.
Make a Toy with a limited number of material (same material for everyone)
A 1 hour and half session including a short presentation by the campers to present their toy to the group. I gave each camper the same materials and they had to make a toy in the limited time. During the process they took some notes on their notebook.
Available tools: Dremel and glue guns.
DAY TWO
Pegboard+bolts+ screws+Rainbow Loops
A very simple way to explore shapes and geometry. The possibilities are infinite.
Make Something That Rolls
DAY THREE
Make an Automaton
Inspired by the Exploratorium in San Francisco, a wonderful project that can be extended with multiple options.
