2013–2014
Participatory installation – public engagement
Large screen, LED lights, cardboard shapes
Species Encounter is an interactive installation in which visitors engage with large animal silhouettes activated by light and projection. The work invites participation through movement and presence, creating a shared, evolving environment.
Originally created for the SubZERO Festival in San Jose (June 2013), the installation was subsequently presented at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History (October 2013), the Art of Innovation – Global Innovation Summit at the San Jose Convention Center (February 2014), and at The Tech Museum for a private event (March 2014).
Each iteration adapted to its site while maintaining the core structure: a large-scale interactive setting combining simple materials and light-based elements to encourage direct public engagement.
